It is a foggy Sunday morning in November 1983. Folks are crowing into Hindemith-hall of Old Opera House in Frankfurt/Germany at the river Main. This day is D.G.H.S’. third anniversary. A penal discussion is going to happen. To my left a well-known penologist from Freiburg (Germany) is sitting and, to my right is H., who is also well known in German speaking countries. We do not celebrate this anniversary. However, this event seems to me as a worthy framework, to remember our association’s anniversary. I regard it as an opportune incident that the D.G.H.S. is not the organizers of this well visited event.

The jurist next to me points something out that of course is familiar to me: My neighbor to the right (H.) is stunning: Assistance in suicide is not punishable in Germany? Do I have such possibilities and I never used? - he seems to ask himself. After the event, we are strolling in the city of Frankfurt. The man beside me is a very typical of German: thickset, obese, sensitive, ugly and without any appearance or even gloss of humour and kindness. For me however, - mum- he is the paragon of the ugly German. Nevertheless, he seems to meet the requirements of a participant of negotiations and combat. Acting politically, one has to repress as well personal sympathy and as antipathy. Here, it is is not about any personal friendship, but to get a breakthrough of an idea. However, folks are used to thinking one cooperates because people are friends. Finally, we exchanged addresses and agreed to keep in touch.

Chaos And Incompetence At The Chiemsee (Bavaria)

Half a year later, middle of April 1984, my telephone is ringing at my home, in Augsburg. He had a female patient that wants to die. It is about Hermy Eckert's voluntary euthanasia. I am requested to visit him and her urgently. Shortly afterwards, I am sitting in my car and rushing at the Chiemsee close to the frontier to Austria. When arriving: The entire hospital is upset. Each knows about everything what is going happen and everybody knows everything. I know, what today is occurring here, are the headlines of the media tomorrow. I realize that I cannot give a change to the riding train. I only can decide either to take part or to withdraw, totally. For both options, I can imgaine the consequences to D.G.H.S and me. I made up my mind, when I saw the horribly maimed woman and talked with her. A cancer of skin shreds her face, but her mind is fully updated. Regardless all other circumstances, I am bound to help that suffering woman. However, what shall I do here? A professor of medicine is operating here and I'm just an educated layman. Yes that's it but the professor does not know the first things about suicide. I had to take the part as physician although I was medical nonprofessional.

On two conditions, I consent to help:

1.      H. must promise not to tell anybody, that I delivered the means to die, because I was afraid of strong wilder demand.

2.      The desire of the patient to die is to record cinematically..

In the views of our religious ideological adversaries nothing exists, what should not be. One would tell, the woman did not want to die, at all. We have to prove the contrary to this self-deception by convincing pictures. The Christian enemy fools himself that assistance in suicide solely was compassion the helping ones have with themselves. They do not dare to repeat their silly phrases when the movie was shown to the world public.

The decision if and how the patient wanted to die is up to her, completely. H. ushers me out of his office to her room. We are passing suites of rooms, flights of steps until we get in front of the door of her room. "Here we are": H. knocks at the door, opens it - and I do not know, if I it is about a movie or real life. Such a shredded face I never saw and I never could imagine, before. The woman is not that sad or very depressive. She is at distinct mind and says instantly, what she wants to do:: "To die, preferably quickly and painless." "According to all we know potassium cyanide is painful," I explain to her. "That's no matter", she answered, " it is important for me , that I quickly and absolutely surely die," she argues.

H. leaves me alone with her. We talk about half an hour. She signs a living will. I explain the different possibilities of a self-deliverance to her. She makes up her mind for potassium cyanide. It was a kind of relief to me. Just under this requirement, we could help her without risk of infringing the German penal code - if German authorities obey the law. However, if it is about Christian ideology of “protection of lives” – proven by about 300 millions murders by the perfidious and infamous sect, one cannot rely on the Christiana’ abiding by the law, at least in Germany.

I say good-bye to the mutilated patient. H. was waiting for me, in the corridor. Now we are discussing the details. It is becoming transparent to me that H. does not only charge the role of a medical adviser to me but mostly a juridical one. The reputable professor of Freiburg, we got aquatinted in Frankfurt, had refused cooperating. "Now I must rely on you, that the matter is legally unobjectionable," H. says to me while we were returning to his office. I nod and report to him: that the woman made up their mind to die by potassium cyanide." "That is what she also told me," H. promptly answered. "Is it rapidly available?", he asked. "Within two day it is", I told him.

Two days later, we meet in the same room.

Again, we were sitting at the coffee table. At the wall behind his desk two portraits of dark figures are hanging that give me the creeps. "Who are that folks?", I asked him. H. tells me that are people he's adoring. I am becoming afraid of him. Then I hand the cyanide over to him while giving the accurate instructions for its application he never knew. There is also a doctor of my board present that H. correctly calls "duffer". That guy wanted to apply himself for a job at H's hospital but H. refused to hire him because of incapability. Later he and that blockhead will become "friends," when H. broke his promise not to tell from whom he got the cyanide. So, he had this old mug to whom I render a favour by enabling him the application to H.'s hospital as witness against me. At noon, I am dashing back to Augsburg/Germany. In the evening of the same day about 9 p.m., newly my telephone is ringing. At the other end of the strip there is H. with a restful voice: "She just has died a couple of minutes ago." "Had she had any troubles"?, I inquire. "No, she slept peaceably." At this moment I had to change my mind that dying by cyanide should be painfully. (Other cases later on proofed this).

Yet a few minutes afterwards, I got another call from a friend of mine from a Munich newspaper. She just had experienced that H. performed voluntary euthanasia to a patient by potassium cyanide. I pretended to be surprised. Then in Germany, events came thick and fast, but less in other European countries. In the USA there was reported as much as nothing. However, H. knowing that the USA is the standard of all invention was determined firstly to change this and secondly to become as famous in that huge country as he was in Germany.

Background of The Curriculum Vitae

To understand the role that H. performed in German public, one has to consider his curriculum vitae. This German did not fall from the sky but was a product of that hatred that is common in the Germans' society. The traits of H. and those ones of German society corresponded one another. His father - not unusual to Germany – severely spanked him. When the Germans had colonies before the First World War, they even introduced such beating penalties in remote parts of the world. H. transferred these beatings -- he could not forget his father -- to his enemies he had selected in the public. Hence, it was no stunt to get into the shot line of such a German warrior. Because there are many Germans now, suffering a similar fate caused by their (German) parents many Germans recognized their own hatred and ugliness in that German. So he became an representative or ambassador of the resentments of lower classed and lower intelligent Germans and their corresponding media.

The Santa Monica Speech in 1985

After parting of the meant patient, H. and me stayed further in contact. Mostly, by the many joint television talk shows the personal touch was uphold. In December 84, he asked me by telephone if I could use my connections to the USA for him. He had noticed that the case of euthanasia he now called his one was not known in the USA, at all. In this context I arranged participation of both of us and enabled H. to address the congress of the Hemlock Society in Santa Monica, CA. that took place in February 85. H. insisted on my participation because he did not speak English well, more over I should introduce him into the corresponding circles in the USA. We separately travelled to L.A. and met in the convention hotel in Santa Monica. At breakfast H. passed his manuscript to me. I do not trust my eyes. Everything is written in German: "You can't speak German here!", I told him shaking my head. I instantly finish my breakfast, seize the manuscript and dash to my room to translate the text rapidly into the English - just two hours before the official opening of the congress starts. After one hour I am ready with it. Now a secretary was to is to find to type my handwriting. I succeed with couples of additional dollars. About 9.30 o’clock, everything is ready. The congress can start.

At the entrance of the convention hall we meet Gerald Larue, a professor at UCLA and then president of the Hemlock Society. I want to introduce my "important" German fellow to Gerald . However he is not very interested in that distinguished German guy. Instead of that, Gerald starts talking about "beautiful Anita" and inquires H.: "Doesn't he (that is me) have a beautiful wife?", Gerald asked H. The alleged or really important guest beside us has to confess: "Yes, he has," otherwise he would have lost any credibility and is regarded as envious German grudging everybody everything he does not have. That is almost the worst that could happen to H. At that time, he had just divorced and praises himself about an alleged German beauty he is about to marry. Due to a matter of politeness, I refrain from telling more…

At the opening of the congress my attendance was mention to the participants, an official greeting for H. is neglected. The US media are not interested in H. but in me. Finally, the organizers refuse to let him speak to the plenary session but simply to an additional event. Again, my authority is needed to change the mind of the Hemlock people in favour of this German fellow. Now, I gradually get aware of what I am going to face by that guy when we will be back to Germany. Here was a man piqued in his vanity.

Sometime in the late afternoon, H. is allowed to speak. He spoke an English like a German officer that was just is captured by Allied Forces in a movie on World War II. However, unlike the average German he is fairly intelligent and can also handle this situation. He tries flattering his American audiences, already in a very repulsive way. However, parts of the contents of his speech are forceful and put all the other speeches behind. That is what some of the Hemlock officials were afraid and tried avoiding his speech. Thus, by doing so he becomes still more unpopular by the US organizers that wanting to stay the leading light in this field. It is not Hemlock’s president Gerald Larue – a friend of mine -- but the then executive director of Hemlock who is very afraid of loosing his reputation as conceited no. 1 of voluntary euthanasia to US-Media and within the world federation. That is why the Hemlock Society even didn't mentioned H.'s speech in the congress' report. That is a bit thick and evidence of inferiority inadvertently debunked by concealing! Rivalry never may go that far! H. told this speech the best one of his life. Even years later and when we were quarrelling, he rightly referred to this speech enthusiastically and wrote in a book on me : "He (that is me) has presented it to me (H.), my president." That almost sounds like: My Lord. It was an arousing speech only to the participants of the congress. Even after his speech, the US media are more interested in that what the head of D.G.H.S. is thinking but scarcely in H's points of view.

The dissension

Hardly a month after Santa Monica the quarrels started. They were carried out in the German media by unequal arms. Here, he wanted to demonstrate to me who of both was a nobody. Santa Monica was a strange experience to me. For once, I presented him a success that he never had never before and afterwards. On the other hand, he had to see that his limits were the frontiers of the German convoluted language, German perfidious traits and German clumsy mind. He was no internationally well-known person how Germans media want to pretend when he died. Behind the borders of Germany, Austria and the Switzerland, he was something like a nobody. He obviously was determined to change it by German methods but he failed to do so.

He publicly told me as the person he got the cyanide. Hereby, he succeeded in getting the attorney of state also investigating against me. I finished cooperation with that guy. People that applied to him for euthanasia were assisted no longer because he was unable to perform euthanasia without me. He replaced euthanasia by media campaigns and mixed it up. Some spectacular cases followed but I had to assist the suffering ones. He just was talking what the Germans are used to liking most. The investigation is finished when he signs a declaration to the German authorities to refrain from performing any euthanasia, in future. I did not sign such an illegal declaration that was in the interests of the stately financed German Christian Churches. And all of a sudden: The similar case under the same legislation and jurisdiction that was not punishable if H. was involved, however, the German proclaimed it punishable when I performed alone. So, I became kidnapped and not H.

The successors of Hitler, Himmler, Göring, Dr. Mengele dominating especially the Bavarian Christian (National) Socialist Party and Bavarian government pretended: All was done by means of German legislation. However, the their Nazis predecessors talked and acted in the same way: In Germany, the Nazis' dictatorship was not installed by revolution, but by elections and parliamentary majority votes on law of authorization that any deputy could oppose and there was opposition but just by a small minority. The large majority of the Germans voted for the establishment of dictatorship by the Nazis. That means that even the holocaust was according German law, right and legislation. Even crimes against humanity are committed legally in Germany! Who is able to outdo “probity” of the Germans…? Are not the Germans upright criminal ones? You'll never find such oddness and lunacy in the world! And even the German Catholic Party consented to Hitler's law of authorization that enabled the Nazis to install dictatorship and commit the holocaust in accordance to German law and jurisdiction. That is what the Nazis did - that is what their successors of today are used to doing. They tell that the Nazis gazed the Jewish and they (the Germans and Christians) do not do so. However, the holocaust did not start by gazing the Jews. That was the end! German authorities of today and that of sixty years ago think that a crime is not a crime, if the state is corrupted enough of perpetrating it. The Nazis as well as their present day successors regarded themselves as people of law and order. The Germans regarded the felon Hitler as their best criminal prosecutor - even decades after his defeat and suicide. One does not wonder why many Germans severed from Hitler, after capitulation. Albert Speer, Hitler's most efficient minister said in his final words in the Nuremberg trial in 1946 that the German people will detest and condemn Hitler as cause of their misfortune over decades of years. They left Hitler because he was a looser - not because he was wrong, criminal and felonious. Most people abroad believe that the Germans detest Nazi ideology when the dissociated form the Nazis. They are just dissociating form a looser. Most Germans are thinking that Hitler is just a badly realized good idea. They consent to the Nazis’ ideas, believe, attitudes and disagree to a looser. In that way, one has to conceive what German politicians tell about the Nazis. They have the same (German) attitudes like Hitler. It is about the same way of thinking! However, they do not like a looser! That is the difference between the Germans of today and those ones of the past.

To Commit Crimes Against Humanity in Accordance With German Law - The Way of German Politics

But referring back to H.: He was not interested in euthanasia. He was only interested in himself. If the contrary would had been popular, H. presumably would had pleaded for that. He was only interested to get a topic in order to attract attention of the public. Nobody has operated more efficiently versus euthanasia than this possessed aspiring, paltry German guy. The German authorities knew hat he had split euthanasia movement in Germany and that there was no resistance to fear when the German authorities – ever world champion in inquisition of mind - succeeded in kidnapping me by advise of the German Christian Churches. H. swore to prevent all resistance. Otherwise, the German authorities - successors of Hitler, Göring, Dönitz, Himmler, Albert Speer etc. - would not dare kidnapping   me like they did not succeed in doing so, in 1984. For three years ugly H. could produce himself again as euthanasist no. 1 in Germany - a position he had lost to me in the meantime - by grace of euthanasia's enemies. H. guaranteed no more improvement of euthanasia to the adversaries of it . Consequently, he was the best conversation partner to them. Hypocrisy, the usual attitude of euthanasia's enemies also was common to H. . That is the most important and demanded consent in Germany. Those are the attitudes of the ugly and dastardly as clumsy Germans who become a killing machine when a leader is commanding them to do so. "Leader command - we'll follow you" - were the Germans shouting 60 years ago…
